This might be our most broad episode to date. It’s impossible to talk about 120 Minutes, the seminal music video show of the late 80s and 90s, without talking about the late 80s and 90s as a whole. Being such a taste-maker, and such a huge part of the cultural landscape, any discussion of anything to do with MTV inevitably flies off into tangents about Kurt Cobain, Smashing Pumpkins, Gen X, feminism in music, rock versus alternative rock, etc, etc, and so on and so forth. Luckily we found just the gal for the task.
Writer and musician Bree Davies is the front runner for the “Person Most Likely to Take Over Taylor’s Seat” award. She is a pop cultural encyclopedia and loves her some 120 Minutes. Join us as we weave our way through the 90s, reflecting and analyzing the Alternative Nation that we all were perhaps too young to have been a part of. And be sure to read all of Bree’s stuff over at Westword, and watch out for her in the crazy Denver music scene too!
