  • These Things Matter Podcast - Uncle Tupelo

Continuing our journey through the back roads of country music, we have comedian James Fritz on today’s episode to talk Alt Country! Kentucky-born Fritz has a place in his heart for Uncle Tupelo, Whiskeytown, Wilco, Drive-By Truckers, Son Volt, Neko Case, Gillian Welch and The Jayhawks. Not to mention the godfather of them all, Graham Parsons. Maybe not so much with Ryan Adams, but hey! Chella Negro has him covered for you on our Ryan Adams podcast ep!

Hey guys! I’m doing a new thing! It’s a monthly DJ night at SPUTNIK in Denver (3 So Broadway) every 1st Friday!

Here are some posters I’ve made – I’ll be putting them up monthly here. The idea is that I spin music that was popular when your parents were cool. “But whose parents?” you may ask. Our parents, collectively. People who were alive and growing up from 1965-1985. People who are in their 50s and 60s. Baby Boomers, y’all. I’m talkin’ CCR, Joe Cocker, Steely Dan, Earth Wind & Fire, The Stones, The Faces, Marvin Gaye, Elton John, and tons and tons of one hit wonders.

Come join me! Let’s drink cheap beer and talk about heading to the laser show and neck on the dance floor.

We’re back! Together! Kevin and Taylor! Taking on the pop cultural world one subject at a time! Today we have radio legend Bret Saunders of the ‘BCO Morning Show! Anybody who has lived in Colorado over the past 20-odd years knows Bret’s voice, but did you know he also writes a jazz column for the Denver Post. How about that!?

We talk to him about his love of comedy auteur Albert Brooks. We focus on Mr. Brook’s first three “punk rock” movies, REAL LIFE, MODERN LOVE and LOST IN AMERICA, but really, we span the gamut. Join us! And then watch all these movies on Netflix!

We’re super sorry for the delay on this one – a series of mishaps and errors prevented us from getting this out to you on time. But here it is!

Taylor took a trip to Portland to visit her cool aunt (whom you may recall from our calls to help her GoFundMe campaign) and to record a cool episode of the show!

We talk about The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, Beatles trading cards, and, of course, Beatles Rock Band.
